NOTICE: The Mad Piper is not accepting any new orders until further notice in order to complete back orders.

This is the website of Donnie Shearer, admitted a Freeman Citizen of Glasgow and Burgess Hammerman of the Trades House of Glasgow, Scotland in March 2003.  My sword making heritage is traced back to 1721 to my fifth great uncle, George Noble, who was also a Glasgow Burgess Hammerman, candle stick and brass basket hilt maker.

Here are examples of Scottish swords, dirks, lochabers and other weapons used by the Scottish Highlanders from the 15th to 18th century. They are just a sample of the styles and designs for pricing purposes. The cost will vary depending on the piercings, engraving, finish and materials used.

All swords can be made with any blade currently in stock and are not limited to the one shown in the sample. You can create your own style by combining parts of different designs or reference one in a variety of books on the subject. You can also submit a picture or drawing for a quote to create your own design. The blades I use are made by Del Tin, a known producer of quality blades since the middle 1600's. The basket is made as the originals in size and shape. The scabbard is replicated from antique originals, trimmed with metal or silver and the grip is wood covered with leather or ray skin wrapped with twisted wire. Scabbards are supplied with each sword except the long two-handed claidheamh da' la'imh or claymore.

My weapons are "made to order" and are not sitting on the shelf waiting to be shipped. It will take time to get your sword to you so your patience will be appreciated.  Delivery time can vary from a month to over a year, depending on the back load of orders, unplanned interruptions and delays. Enjoy my web site and place your order today. I guarantee my work to your satisfaction or your funds returned, less shipping fees. I will not charge your credit card until I actually start on your order.

I also offer expert restoration and repair work of Scottish weapons. The Accessories page has samples of my restoration work. Please send pictures for price quote. I have many references here in the USA and Scotland.
